Question
I remember when I was about 10, I visited a family member for a summer. They had a computer for business but the box had a game I got really into.
I know it's not exactly super details but I'm going to spew as much information as I can in hopes of hitting a sweet spot and someone knows something.
When I played this game it was between 1987 and 1993. However this may not be when the game was released.
I cannot remember anything more than "it was a computer of sorts" (I was like 8 or 9... sorry).
It was a space exploration game kind of simulation or RPG. The game came on multiple floppies (can't really recall if they were 8, 5 or 3 inch).
The game had a huge book (possibly a game manual) that every time you loaded the game it gave you a code that referred to a word in the book and you had to type it in to play.
You could meet and speak to aliens, some looked really odd. Some were friendly and some were hostile. You could trade with most of them. There was an engine room that had modular pieces that you had to build and replace damaged parts.
(Not 100% sure on this part) the game screen was text/options on the bottom and right and the upper right portion was the navigation.
I'm sorry I cannot be more specific but I'm hoping the "refer to line x on page x" anti-piracy was uncommon enough to drag out a few suggestions in this vast genre.
Answer
Maybe Lightspeed?
Also there's a list of games which use manual-based copy protection here, if you want to read through (many) titles and see if anything rings a bell.
