Draw Something turn out of synch

Question

Ok, I am in a weird state in one of my games. It seems that my device forgot about one of my drawings even though it was sent to my partner. So now her guesses show up as guesses for the next drawing. I drew a music box, and she guessed it, but her guess showed up in the queue for my next drawing, of a dogsled. So when I click the game, it shows her guessing 'musicbo' for dogsled, and getting it wrong and resetting our streak, even though it presumably already told her she got musicbox right.

I tried killing the app, and resetting the device, but no luck. I have no idea what will happen when her dogsled guess comes through. Maybe it will synch up.

Anyone seen anything like this?

ETA let it continue after showing her getting dogsled wrong, streak counter jumped back up to where it should be if she got it right? Sent another drawing, now have two outstanding...

EATA So my dogsled drawing never made it to her; it disappeared into the æther. From her point of view, it was all normal, like Timothy Roy said below, and we're back in sync now. Glad I didn't spend more time on that particular drawing, since it went nowhere.

Thanks.

Asked by Mark Reed

Answer

The same thing happened to me once, my friend didn't see anything bto him it was just the normal game and everything looked the same. I then accepted his 'wrong' guess and reset our streak to 1, but to him it was still on 60 or something. When I drew another one, he guessed it right and sent one back to me, my draw something synchronized to his and we were back on 62.

So for me everything worked out in the end, I hope it'll be the same for you.

If I upgrade my Draw Something, who gets to use the bonus words?

Question

I've noticed a few ads in between drawing sessions that recommend I purchase the game (instead of using the free version). It mentions 1000 more words, no ads, free stuff, etc, but who gets to draw the 1000 + words? Is it the buyer who gets to draw them and any user ( including those who haven't purchased the game) can guess those new words?

Do I have to face an opponent that has purchased Draw Something to be able to use words found within that 1000+ word bonus? enter image description here

Asked by Foxtrot

Answer

Paid users of DrawSomething have the 1000+ words bonus. It means that when the server gives them the choice of three words, it extracts them from a bigger pool of available words.

You will not have any problems playing with "free" users, the only drawback is that when it comes her/his turn to draw, words are taken from the limited words pool.

What happens when you reach the maximum streak?

Question

Apparently Draw Something has a maximum streak of 99 (which will be raised to 999 in a future update). What happens when you reach the maximum streak? Does that game end, does it reset to 0, or just remain at 99?

I'm up to 95 with one of my drawing partners so I'm wondering if it's worth us not playing until the update hits.

Asked by jwaddell

Answer

When you reach Turn 99, the counter will remain at 99 until either a word is not guessed, or the future update releases.

It will still do the animation between turns (when the counter would normally update), but the number will remain 99.

Draw Something Past Pictures

Question

Is there a way to view past pictures that you have drawn?

I was playing and I did a drawing I thought was pretty good. Is there any way to go back without taking a screenshot before hitting done?

I have another chance when I watch them back during the video of them guessing. I was hoping to find out before I lose out on that chance.

Thanks

Asked by kwelch

Answer

No... but soon you will be able to with the next update .

You’ll be able to save your drawings to your device’s photo library (a feature that was requested by many users). As of now, Draw Something doesn’t have a save option, meaning that your “masterpieces” are forever lost with each new round. Sure, you can take screenshots (which many people did), but not everyone can do this and not on every phone. The save drawing option is probably one of the best features that are being added into the game.

Are there any checks for cheating, or is the game based on trust?

Question

I have been playing Draw Something for 24 hours and I have noticed that a few random opponents spell out the answer if they cannot draw it.

This kind of ruins the fun, but I can imagine it would be a very quick way to earn coins which would otherwise cost money, to buy new colour packs.

So my question is, are there any checks in place to stop this? The players who have written out the answer in games against me seem to have got away with it.

Asked by AnthonyBlake

Answer

After trolling through https://getsatisfaction.com/drawsomething and http://forums.omgpop.com/draw-something there are no Official Rules published by OMGPOP.

So, I believe at the time of this post, there are no implementations to mitigate cheating other than the player opting to only draw. Also, there should now be a delete button in the new update, download it and you should be able to delete the games with cheaters.

However I came across this from one of the employees:

EMPLOYEE Joseph (Official Rep) 1 month ago

Hey David,

Word writing is technically cheating. You should refrain from writing words as much as possible. Try your best to draw out the word without words, it'll be more fun that way :D

Are draw delays, during my turn to draw, displayed to the other user/opponent?

Question

If I delay whilst it is my turn to draw in Draw Something, is the delay transmitted to the other user?

Example - I start drawing, but I am then away from my device for 5 minutes to put the kettle on. I then complete my masterpiece when I return. In this scenario, would the other user (opponent?) have a 5 minute delay when watching me draw? Or is this delay "cut" from the game?

Asked by AnthonyBlake

Answer

After just testing this, there did not seem to be any noticeable delay. This was after I drew something, waited 5 minutes, then finished the drawing, and then submitted it. Once my friend received the turn, he saw the picture being drawn without any delay.

The delay seems to be either cut from the game or sped up tremendously.

What does the arrow in the bottom left corner do?

Question

When watching someone's drawing bring drawn, in the bottom of the drawing area (above the letters) there are two icons.

I know the one on the right, which looks like two arrows around each other, shuffles the letters around.

What does the one on the left do? It looks like a curved arrow pointing to the right, but I've not been able to notice any function. I thought it might be to redraw the opponent's drawing, or to skip to the final result, but it never seems to do anything when I press it, either while the drawing is in progress or when it's finished.

Asked by Alex

Answer

That arrow recalls all the letters that you've put down so far. So try guessing incorrectly, then pressing the button; all the letters will recall to the letter cache.

What to do if the other player's drawing is blank?

Question

I am just playing with a random player but at the second turn I got the notification that his/her drawing is ready, but when I play the video nothing occurs, the drawing is always blank.

What does it mean and what options do I have now?

Asked by Drake

Answer

Draw Something has its fair share of bugs so there is a slight chance the empty drawing is a bug, in which case using an anagram finder is the best bet to be able to continue your streak. However given that it's a random person it seems most likely that they're just a troll, in which case you're better off just deleting that game and finding a new drawing partner who will play the game properly.

Is Draw Something available on Blackberry? [closed]

Question

Is Draw Something available on Blackberry? I cannot find it, but I am surprised if is is not present...

Asked by Doomsknight

Answer

It is not, and there are currently no plans announced for it to be published on that platform.

And... any speculation on the future of the industry is off-topic here.

What does 'Nudge' actually do?

Question

In Draw Something, if my opponent hasn't made a move in a little while (a day or so, I guess, haven't measured how long it takes) I get the option to Nudge them. The button is grey and appears where the green Play button usually is.

What does Nudging someone actually do? There are no kinds of push notifications that I can find to configure (at least on the Android version), and I've never seen an in-game message along the lines of "You've been nudged" or "Someone is getting really fed up with you".

So either nobody has ever nudged me, or else it doesn't really do a whole lot. Can anyone explain, preferably with images so we can see what being nudged looks like?

Asked by Alex

Answer

It re-sends the message saying there is a turn waiting to the person you have nudged.

You may have been nudged, but seeing as the message is the same as being sent a new game you wont have noticed anything different.

How do I stop playing?

Question

In Draw Something, occasionally I'll see a message that my opponent has resigned from the game. It's nothing to do with the quality of my fat-fingered drawings, I assure you.

But I do wonder - how are they doing this? How do you resign a game? I've not seen any option anywhere. Long-clicking on a game brings up no menu, and there doesn't seem to be an option in the Gears menu, either.

I'm playing on Android, if that makes any difference.

Asked by Alex

Answer

If you swipe left on a game from the main menu, the green "Play" changes to a red "Delete" button. This will allow you to "resign" from a game and remove it from the list.

Can I associate the account with Facebook after it was already created?

Question

My wife has created a Draw Something account directly, not using Facebook as the login mechanism, but she now regrets doing that. Can she associate the existing account with Facebook somehow, or does she have to create a new account (and lose all her coins) if she wants to do so?

Asked by Oak

Answer

Well, for one just go to draw something, hit the settings button in the top right, and tap help. It will take you to a help section, and your question is the very top one listed... I'll re-type the reply here for you:

If you've already created an account vie email, and you want to play with your Facebook friends, you'll have to log in with your Facebook account.

If both your Facebook account and Email account share the same email address, our system will TRY and keep your existing email account games.

Ready to give it a shot? Here's what you need to do if you've already logged into your email account:

1)Press the gear in the top right of the game.

2)Click on account

3)Scroll down to the bottom of the page.

4)Press Log Out

5)Login with your Facebook account

Again if your FB account email matches an existing email account of yours, it'll try to retain your stuff. If it doesn't, your new FB account will be separate. (Sorry, we can not transfer games, coins, bombs, colors over.)

In the future we are looking to make this process way easier. Thanks!

Word for word ;) Hope this helps!

Is there any penalty for a wrong guess?

Question

Sometimes I'm tempted to write rude words to my friends (not random people!) as a joke guess. Is there any penalty for incorrect guesses, such as losing coins? There's no visual indicator, but then again it seems like the Draw Something interface is not always very clear.

Asked by Alex

Answer

Nope, there's no penalty. You can guess as many times as you want!

I routinely give funny answers like "wtf" when I can find them.

How do I change the pen size?

Question

I'm playing Draw Something with someone and I've seen him draw with a thinner "pen" than the one I'm using. How can I use such a thin line? And can I also change the pen width to be wider than the default, not just thinner?

Asked by Oak

Answer

Eh, not sure how I missed it:

You need to click the "pen" icon again while it's already selected.

Does your drawing partner see trashed drawings?

Question

In Draw Something if you completely mess up a drawing you can press the Trash button to start again. Will your drawing partner see the drawings that you trash, or will they only see the final version?

Asked by jwaddell

Answer

I believe they get to view the entire process of your drawing, including if you trash midway and start over. If you think of it as a recording of your process, then it makes sense that they would see that part.

Which color packs overlap?

Question

Looking over the color shop, I can see some color are available in different packs, for example both the fall package and the holiday package contains the same shade of yellow, which is included in the shades of yellow pack as well. If I want to minimize the coins spent and still buy all available colors, which packs should do I choose? which packs are available in separate packs? Can I still buy a color pack even if I have all it's colors from different packs or does it automatically count as "unlocked"?

Asked by JohnoBoy

Answer

I have purchased 2 packs with the coins I have earned, so I can understand what you mean as I have 2 yellow colors overlapping. There are many colors within the packages shown below that you can barely notice any tint difference in play.

It is completely up to you in the end which packages you would like and which tints or variations you would like to enjoy the game to its fullest, but my recommendation would be: Holiday package and the Mardi Gras package. Both packages + the original set give you the main set of colors required to illustrate a proper, defined picture.

My reasoning:

Between the Mardi Gras package + the holiday package + original set you gain:

  • Red[removes red scale package, half of fall package, part of neon package]
  • Purple [removes spring and neon package]
  • (2 different tints of) blue[removes bluescale package, part of spring package, beach package]
  • Green [ neon package ]
  • Yellow [removes fall package (see brown below), part of spring package]
  • brown [removes fall package, ice cream package]
  • Different shades of black - gray[removes grayscale package].

The reasoning above accesses every package (besides minor differences in the shade packages).

Sidenote: I wouldn't bother with the shade packages at all.

Take a look at the screens I have provided below.

How to get more colours?

Question

How can I get different brush colours? I am on iPhone and my friend on Android has different colours. This post mentions that there is a colour shop, but I can only seem to find a bomb shop.

Asked by MieQoo

Answer

When you are on the screen drawing there should be a little plus next to your color selection that says something like 'Add Colors' there you can purcahse colors for coins I believe.

Draw Something on more than one device

Question

I have an iPad and iPhone, can I use the same account on both devices? If so, do I need to be careful and frequently sync the devices to the cloud?

Asked by MieQoo

Answer

Yes, you can play on both devices. The game automatically syncs to the cloud, so you don't need to do anything special. Just log in on both devices and it will work.

How can I return to menu in Draw Something

Question

After I solve a friend's painting, sometimes I don't want to send him a new drawing. I wish to return to the menu but I can't seem to find how to do that without forcing the app to close.

Asked by Chen Harel

Answer

There's no option to do so in the current version of the game, you must force-quit the application and restart it.

To force quit on iOS (I'm listing this for others):

  1. Press the home button to exit the app
  2. Double-press the home button to bring up the open apps bar.
  3. Press and hold the Draw Something icon until a red icon appears in it's the corner.
  4. Press the red icon to close the app.
  5. Press the home button and open the app again.

How are coins distributed?

Question

In DrawSomething, when either you or your opponent guess a drawing correctly, you get shown a screen that says "Drawsome!" and then both of your avatars, along with the number of coins that drawing was worth.

Do I get coins both when an opponent correctly guesses my drawing, AND when I correctly guess an opponent's drawing? Or is it only one or the other?

Asked by Ashley Nunn

Answer

Just tried it now, with my opponent guessing my 3-coin word and me guessing his 2-coin word. After both were successfully guessed, I see that I only got 2 coins. Thus you only get coins for successfully guessing your opponent's word.
