Question
Trying to play Skyrim on Windows 7, i double-click the icon:

Briefly the Steam launcher appears:

before the Skyrim laucher appears:

Clicking Play, i get a UAC elevation prompt:

at which point the Skyrim launcher reappears:

If i click Play, the Skyrim launcher briefly disappears before showing the Skyrim launcher:

If i click Play, the Skyrim launcher briefly disappears before showing the Skyrim launcher:

Skyrim, why you no launch?

If i disable UAC, then i get the same steps as above, except no UAC elevation prompt appears.
Answer
I've seen this same error yesterday. Run Steam (not sure if Administrator privilege is needed), right-click on the game name and go to Properties, then Local Files. There, click on Verify Integrity of Game Cache.
I did that yesterday on a friend's, and Skyrim launched without problems after that.
