How can I get more ammo for a gun I bought in Just Cause 2?

Question

If I buy a gun and run out of ammo how can I get more of it?

Asked by Apoc

Answer

You either pick it up from Soldiers dropping that weapon or just rebuy the Weapon from the Black Market. When you touch it's case, it just refills your ammo if you have that weapon equipped.

There are also weapon stashes around military bases where you can replenish for free.

There is no way to obtain Ammo for Weapons introduced by DLC's outside the Black Market since NPC do not use them.

There are some Mods around which give you unlimited ammo etc, but you have to decide yourself if you want those.

How do I find quest in Just Cause 2

Question

I've done one of 2 quests but now I just can't find any I go to cities and I never see any quests. Where are they, how do I find them?

Asked by Apoc

Answer

If you go to your map you'll see all the quests that are available to you at the time.

If you've only done 2, you probably have maybe only one quest you can do, because it sounds like you might still be in the starting storyline quests.

Do I Have to Finish Just Cause 2 on ALL Difficulty Settings for the PS3 Platinum Trophy?

Question

On the PS3, Just Cause 2 has 3 trophies for finishing the campaign at different difficulty levels:

Top Agent (Bronze): Bonus for completing the game on Normal difficulty.
Heroic Agent (Silver): Bonus for compelting the game on Experienced difficulty.
Legendary Agent (Gold): Bonus for completing the game on Hardcore difficulty.

Since they say, "Bonus," I was under the impression that none of them were required but harder difficulties will allow you to earn rare-er trophies. But I've finished the game on Normal difficulty and earned all of the other trophies, but I still don't have a platinum.

Do I really have to earn ALL three of these?

Asked by Sonic42

Answer

Technically, no, you don't have to play it through 3 times if that's what you mean.

If you had started the game on a higher level and beat it, it would have given you the trophy for the level(s) below. So, if you go back and beat it on hardcore, it will give you the trophy for experienced difficulty as well.

Platinum does require you to get every single trophy, so you'll have to at least finish the game on hardcore to pick up Heroic Agent and Legen... (wait for it) ...dary Agent.

In Just Cause 2, when does Autosaving occur?

Question

When you die or load your game in Just Cause 2, you have to continue from the last autosave. But it's not quite clear what exactly causes the autosave to occur other than checkpoints and completing areas.

Does autosaving occur after you clear part of a town, or can that progress be lost if you die?

Answer

I've noticed auto-saving occur when:

  • You die, generally, in the world. This excludes Faction/Agency missions.
  • You 100% a location.
  • You reach a checkpoint in a Faction/Agency mission.
  • You complete a Faction/Agency mission.
  • You collect a Faction item.

I've manually saved all of maybe 5 times in my game (mind you, this is on the xbox 360, YMMV on other systems). When you die, your current destruction/completion process is saved as-is, so if you made 78% of completion in a given location before dying, when you head back it will still be at 78%.

How, and When, do resource constraints affect Just Cause 2?

Question

I'm playing through Just Cause 2 in Story mode (unsure of difficulty, likely "Normal"), I've killed over 30 military leaders, destroyed at least 15 fuel pipelines, I have a good chunk of destroyed wind turbines, cranes, satellite dishes, lots of Fuel Depots and Gas Storage pipes, plenty of Generators, Broadcast Towers, and Propaganda Trailers, and about half of all Radio Masts.

I have done less than 5 gang missions for each given gang, and have less than 10 sites 100% completed.

Despite the destruction text talking about a negative impact to the Panau Military, it doesn't seem like any aspect of the game is easier, in fact, it seems quite the opposite. Military responses send multiple Helicopters as opposed to only one even at Heat Level 2, and they arrive quicker, the accuracy of the shots taken by military infantry seems to be better even in civilian establishments, as I'm regularly running away and edging death heavily.

Is this expected? I expected to see less military infantry in military sites within a certain range of significantly (or completely) destroyed bases, but instead it seems to be overrun with Elites more so than common infantry men. What's the deal?

Answer

I found the exact same thing. The only thing I could surmise is that it is a way of increasing the difficulty curve.

There is probably some rubbish justification for it along the lines of "the Panauan military is taking measures to stop you from destabilising their country" or some rubbish. Dunno why they wouldn't just put a bullet in your head and go back to dictatoring...

As for the resource constraints, I'm not overly convinced that they affect anything. Having completed the game, nothing really seemed to change much, other than the aforementioned increase in difficulty when getting 100% on settlements.

Getting the 'Trying Anything Once' achievement in Just Cause 2

Question

I am trying to achieve "Trying Anything Once: Drive all 104 vehicles" in Just Cause 2.

I almost reached 75 vehicles but I miss about 30 now. Where can I find a list of all vehicles type and the area in which they can be found?

And additionally, is it possible to understand which are the vehicles I already driven, because I am not sure I remember all of them?

Answer

You can find a comprehensive list on the Just Cause 2 wikia with hints on where to find them...

What are these percentages at different locations and how do I increase them?

Question

I was exploring Just Cause 2 after the tutorial missions, and I found that doing things like blowing up the gas station in the town next to the guy's house or picking up weapon parts increased the percentage to the location.

  • What is this percentage?
  • How do I earn it? (i.e. What are the ways I can do this? Picking up weapon parts did, but killing the military didn't.)
  • What is the bonus of doing this?

Answer

This percentage is the completion rate of the location. In order to complete the game 100%, you will need to complete each location.

Increasing your completion rate at a location is done in two ways:

  • Picking up weapon, armor or vehicle parts
  • Destroying military installations, such as electricity generators, missile silos, water towers and cranes. These are marked with the special red symbol of the military. Standard military vehicles(motorcycles, helicopters, airplanes, jeeps, boats) do not count towards this completion rate.

For each location completed, you are awarded with an additional bonus of infamy and cash. The size of this bonus is dependent on the size of the location completed.

Why can I not sometimes hijack a helicopter, and instead hang beneath it getting ripped to shreds?

Question

Sometimes when I try to hijack a helicopter on Just Cause 2 (when the army are after me), I grapple onto the bottom and just hang there with no hijack option. I proceed to get shot by the ground troops and dropping causes me to get shot by the helicopter.

I've tried grappling onto lots of parts, but I always hang from the bottom.

Is this meant to happen?

EDIT: For quick answers if people find this question, the answer is that you have to move forward to the front of the helicopter to kill guards, then you can hijack.

Answer

I think you need to be in front of the vehicle to perform a hijack for planes and helicopters. When you are in the bottom, try to move the joystick so you'll transfer on top or in the front. And yeah, you need to take down to co-pilot too if there is one.

Maybe this video will help

As you can see he go in front of the helicopter to do his hijack. Hope this helped!

How to cap frame rate (or GPU usage) in Just Cause 2 PC?

Question

I play Just Cause 2 PC on my Radeon 4850 (single slot) and no matter how I tweak the graphic settings (from lowest to highest), Afterburner utility keeps telling me that JC2 is using ~99% GPU utilization.

At that level, R4850 temp could hit easily 100C, cranking the fan to maximum speed.

R4850 clock rate is 500/750 when idle and 625/993 when under load. Afterburner lets me cap with 500/750 under load but JC2 hogs the GPU nonetheless.

Can anyone suggest a way to cap my GPU in terms of GPU usage or frame rate?

BTW, I plan to buy a replacement in AMD's Southern Islands (R7XXX series) once it is out.

Answer

Add to the game's command line parameters: /frameratecap=n where n is the frame rate.

How to tether two objects in Just Cause 2

Question

This is a really dumb question, but I never really played around with the tethering mechanic in Just Cause 2. Now I want to tether things, but I can't remember the key combination from the tutorial mission way back. Does anyone remember how the process works?

Answer

It's similar to a click-and-drag operation. Target the first thing you want to tether, press your grappling hook key, drag to the second object, and let go.

There are some limitations -- range, possibly turning to face the opposite direction for your second object. Also, if the first thing you want to tether is a person, they generally get grappled unless you are very fast. If you're trying to tie a guard to a wall or something, it's easier to target the wall first and drag to the guard.

What does killing a captain do in Just Cause 2?

Question

Sometimes I'm playing and I see a 5 star captain show up and when I kill him it says morale is lowered. What exactly does this mean and how does it affect me?

Answer

Killing a captain or any other high ranking military person, causes the enemy soldiers to run and cover more, instead of attacking you directly.

Another effect is that you will attract more heat, ie. you will be seen as a bigger threat, which in turn will cause better equipped enemies to come after you.

There is more info in this post.
