When I try to join a friend's game via Steam, it says “You have been banned from the current session”

Question

This only started happening after the recent patch (7.06, came out about 10 minutes ago).

He of course hasn't banned me, but we can't join each others' games. How can we fix this?

Answer

This will be fixed in a hotfix tomorrow.

  • Fixed Private Match joining bug. Temporary workaround for 7.06: If you are experiencing issues joining a friends match or friend joining yours, toggle the Show/Hide Match button in the pause menu

Has Team Fortress 2 sped up?

Question

This may seem like an odd question, but have any of the general speed stats of TF2 changed?

It's been a while since I've played TF2, but when I had a game earlier tonight, it seemed somehow quicker, like in base movement speed and damage rates (therefore, quicker lives).

Am I just losing it, or has a recent patch sped something up? Like I said, I haven't played for a while, so it might just be my mind playing tricks on me.

Answer

I would suspect this is a result of the settings of the Server that you connected to. (Assuming that you are playing the PC version of the game).

Is it possible in Minecraft to switch over from survival to creative in single player?

Question

This question is regarding the minecraft 1.8 prerelease -- I have a beautiful house in single player survival which I'd like to record while flying.

I want to be able to change the game mode of my survival map to creative to be able to fly through it without installing a mod. I know it is possible if you run the map on a multiplayer server via the command /gamemode <user> 0|1 but I want to achieve this in single player :)

I think this would be possible through editing your level.dat file as I think that's where the game mode for the map is stored.

Answer

Yes, but currently, not without third-party software.

For single-player worlds, the game mode is stored in the level.dat file, which can be edited using an NBT editor, such as NBTedit. The game mode is stored in Data/GameType — 0 for Survival, 1 for Creative.

Why are my items losing points?

Question

I started a new game playing Crawl Stone Soup and have noticed that my weapons and armor get weaker over time.

My weapon started at +2/+2 and is now at +2/-4. My armor went from +1 to -1.

What is causing this?

Answer

The most likely cause is that you fought a jelly (a red capital J). Hitting a jelly can cause your weapon to degrade, while being attacked by a jelly can cause your armour to degrade. In both cases there is a message that displays, but that is easy to miss.

The best way to fight an early jelly is stones. They are always lying around the first levels and throwing them is effective, even if you don't have a sling. As the majority of the races are faster than a jelly, you can run away from them and pelt them from afar.

Code for Yoshi's Island DS mini games?

Question

In the original Yoshi's Island for Super Nintendo, you could enter a code (hold select, then press x,x,y,b,a) to get to a screen that would allow you to replay the various mini games.

Is there something like this in Yoshi's Island DS?

Answer

There is no code in the DS version to unlock all minigames.

However, minigames unlocked by collecting character coins are accessible from the main menu.

How do I synchronize my Facebook and Google+ Dragon Age Legends games?

Question

Is it possible to port my Dragon Age: Legends character from the Facebook version of the game to the Google+ version and keep them synchronized?

Answer

No. You can't port them or synchronize them. From the FAQ.

Can I import my Dragon Age Legends hero from Facebook to Google+?

No. The Facebook and Google+ versions of Dragon Age Legends are completely independent of each other. If you've already played the game on Facebook, you're able to create a brand-new hero on Google+. Try playing as another class for a very different DAL experience!

How many versions of “Ico” are there?

Question

As seen on this question about Ico, there are different versions of this game with slightly different puzzles in some rooms. Many walkthroughs and youtube videos published show different solutions for the version I played in PS2 & PS3. What version was the first and how many are there? It is related to the region, may be? Thanks in advance.

Answer

With respect to gameplay, there were two versions released for the PS2 (an original version and a U.S. version), and one remake for the PS3:

U.S. and original version box art

          U.S. Version Original Version

PS3 version box art

          PS3 Remake

With respect to language and region code, there were eight releases, including one reprint in Europe coinciding with the release of Shadow of the Colossus:

PlayStation 2

Where can I find Amethyst?

Question

I recently bought Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny and I'm hooked despite my gaming tastes.

Now I'm in need for a better weapon so: Where can I find Amethyst, which is used to make Luck Blades(Dual Blades)?

I'm at the Flame Shrine now (final floor tough).

Answer

Amethysts are dropped by Monster Boxes, which are those toothy treasure-chest-looking guys that can be found on the Desert Island or the third floor of the Earth Spirit Shrine. They're also dropped by Mimics (blue Monster Boxes) and grown by Gigantuses (blue trolls), but I don't think you'll be able to get either of those until you get to the next shrine.

How to obtain legit Gold Box games?

Question

Are any of the original Gold Box engine based games (i.e. Pool of Radiance, Champions of Krynn, etc.) available via digital distribution?

GoodOldGames and Steam don't seem to have them in their catalogues.

Original boxes are pretty rare (especially for further installments of the series) and thus quite expensive. Sometimes they also come on 5.25" floppies, which are tough to use on any modern PC.

If they are not available via DD, are there any rumors or plans connected with their release?

Answer

SSI, if they even exist anymore, no longer has a D&D license. I haven't seen them available for any platform in about a decade.

However, it's not hopeless. Prior to the end of the last century, the Gold Box games (except Unlimited Adventures) were compiled on various CD-ROM collections, making them more accessible for a modern PC. (Though you may still need to use DOSBox to get them working, and they don't have print copies of the cool journals and such -- it's all PDF.) I myself have one of these collections. You might check eBay, though a quick check at this moment in time revealed only floppy-disk versions. Other auction sites, or second-hand software resellers may also have them available.

How do I destroy the Harley Heads?

Question

I'm talking about the Harley Heads in the Steel Mill where if you press the button, you hear Harley talking through the intercom. I know I have to do something to them, because there's a count for them in the Riddler's challenges under the Steel Mill, just like the Joker Balloons and TYGER cameras.

I've tried:

  • pushing the button several times, but it just seems to annoy her
  • using the explosive gel, but doing so makes him use it on the wall behind the head, which does nothing
  • trying to use the various Batarangs at my disposal, but there's no targeting reticule for them

What do I need to do to destroy these?

Answer

Shoot a Remote Electrical Charge directly at her head. It should pop off and count it as completed.

How can I break plywood off of the ground?

Question

There seems to be a lot of plywood walls off of the ground with Riddler Trophies behind them, and the Batclaw seems to have lost it's multi-line extension from Arkham Asylum. I've had limited success breaking them with the line launcher, but it doesn't always seem to work. Is there another way to break them, or am I just not finding the right positions to launch the line launcher from?

Answer

Find a higher spot close by, get to it, then jump off and do a regular glide into the plywood (Holding A in the Xbox 360 Version). Running into it from the glide will break the plywood, no need to do anything else.

How to melee attack in Mass Effect for Xbox 360?

Question

I've run out of grenades against the colonists and cannot figure out how to melee attack.

I was instructed to use non-lethal force (either grenades with the Anti-Thorian Gas mod or melee attack).

Answer

From http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/rpg/masseffect/player_review.html?id=534409:

Meleeing isn't too good because there is no melee button, and instead you just have to come in contact with an enemy, which will automatically melee them, which can be pretty frustrating

Why are Aspyr COD games so expensive in the Mac App Store? [closed]

Question

In the Mac App Store, Aspyr is selling the following COD games for super inflated prices:

  • Call of Duty: $19.99
  • Call of Duty 2: $29.99
  • Call of Duty 4: $49.99

Why are they so expensive?

Answer

The price of an app in the Mac App Store is set by the publisher. Aspyr is charging so much for their ports because, presumably, they believe people are willing to pay those prices.

How can I increase The Whispered World's resolution?

Question

The default resolution for The Whispered World is 1024x768. I can't seem to find any way to increase this. I run dual monitors, so having it at such a small resolution makes my secondary monitor nearly useless.

I navigated to \Steam\steamapps\common\whispered world\ and opened the config.ini file, however there are no options regarding the resolution in this file, the contents of which are below:

FILE = data.vis
FULLSCREEN = noMusicVolume = 90
SoundVolume = 95
SpeechVolume = 100

There's an executable TWWOptions.exe, however, this only allows me to choose whether I want it to run in Windowed or Fullscreen mode. Is it hidden in another file somewhere or is there simply no way to do this?

Answer

I believe The Whispered World does not use 3D graphics - they seem to be fully hand-drawn 2D. In such case it might be there is no option for changing the resolution, as this would require graphics fitting bigger or smaller screen.

Was there a code for “Hyper Sonic” in Sonic 2?

Question

I remember inputting cheat codes in the music test for Super Sonic anytime in Sonic 2 , but I remember there was either a way or a cheat code to get "Hyper Sonic". Does anyone remember?

Answer

From http://cheats.freeola.com/megadrive_i/sonic-2_910.html:

"Run forward in Oil Ocean, Act 2 until reaching the green jet springs. Jump on the very last spring and hold Right. Sonic will hit a group of spikes before becoming stuck in the side of the wall. Jump out to transform into Hyper Sonic. In this mode, Sonic can run faster and jump farther than Super Sonic, but is not invincible."

As I have never tested this cheat before, I cannot guarantee that it works.

When is possible to add a team to “My Desired Team”?

Question

I'm playing BAL mode.I'm on the first year of a 3 years contract with FC Twente and I have the third agent (100,000). When I'm searching for a club, it seems I can't add them to "My desired team" list so that my agent will start negotiations.

When is it possible to do that?

Answer

It may be possible only when the transfer window is open. In real life, the summer transfer window for the Eredivisie seems to run from July 1 through August 31 or September 1, and the winter transfer window runs from January 1 through January 31. If you aren't currently in a transfer window, you may not be able to ask your agent to start negotiations with a team.

Does a unit with the “ignores terrain cost” promotion benefit from the “woodsman” promotion?

Question

Some units, such as scouts, minutemen, or units upgraded from them, get the "ignores terrain cost" promotion which means every terrain tile costs 1 movement point (or less if it's a road). However, the woodsman promotion explicitly says that forests and jungles cost half the movement points.

My question is, how many movements points does a forest tile cost for a unit with both of these promotions? 1.0 or 0.5?

Answer

A unit with the "ignores terrain cost" promotion does not benefit from the woodsman promotion at all - I've just chose that promotion hoping for 0.5 but instead forest tiles still cost 1.0 movement point :(

How can I disable Replays in PES 2011?

Question

I want to disable all replays in Pro Evolution Soccer 2011. I looked over the settings but couldn't find anything related. How can I disable them?

Answer

There is no way to disable the replays on Xbox 360. It was a criticism point on PES 2011 with slightly changed behaviour in PES 2012.

Apparently there is a patch for disabling automatic replays on the PC Version: PES 2011 replay disabler

What is the significance of the star next to your name in the squad list?

Question

What is the significance of the star next your name on the squad list in Battlefield 3?

Answer

This does indeed mean that you are the Squad Leader. As Squad Leader, you have the functionality (or obligation if you prefer) to assign squad tasks. This basically amount to attack/defend a certain point (you get bonus points if your squad then complies).

If you are squad leader, you can set an objective by pressing the "spot" command while targetting the objective.

Also certain servers only allow people to spawn on a squad leader, but a squad leader can spawn on any other squadmate.

BF3: what is the best game type to level up in?

Question

I'm not sure how I feel about the campfest that is BF3 just yet. I'm giving it an honest go, but I want to get some more weapons. What is the best game type to level up in or are they all mostly the same?

Answer

The best game modes to level up in would be Conquest and Rush.

The reason these two are the best are because they contain objectives that are worth a lot of points.

The fastest is probably conquest as capturing a point (including neutralizing the point first) will net you 450 points (350 for assisting a capture) and there are many many points to cap per round. In addition, if you kill anyone while inside a flag's area of influence, you'll gain an extra 30 points per kill.

Rush is the second best as you can also get 600 points per objective (100 for arming, 500 for destroying. Only 200 for defusing) played, but they're aren't as many, and it's harder to get defends etc.

I am trying to play Rock Band 3 with 2 wireless mics and cannot see the last one that connects

Question

I have the 2 mics from Lips (by Microsoft), and I am trying to play Rock Band 3 with one person singing harmony and the other lead.

Is that possible?

For some reason, when I start the game, it only "sees" the controller that was plugged in first.

Am I missing something?

Answer

In Rock Band 3, only one controller is used for vocals, no matter how many mics are connected. (Also, if you have "All Instruments Mode" on, then no controller is used for vocals.)

If you select Solo, then singing is mostly the same as in Rock Band 1 and 2, with a single track for the vocalist. (While there are differences between older RB tracks and RB3 tracks, the mechanics are the same.)

If you select Harmonies, then singing is the same as in Beatles: Rock Band. One, two, or three vocal tracks will be available, depending on how the song was set up, and the track you match is based on your pitch, not on your microphone. That means the following things are true:

  • You can sing both lead and harmony on some tracks, depending on where the harmony comes in. If you are singing in Harmonies mode by yourself, you may need to do this, as some phrases may not have lead vocals. (This also means that on some songs, you can actually get a Double Awesome on some phrases even when you are singing by yourself.)
  • On some songs, you may have difficulty on some phrases unless you have someone singing each part. Because RB3 guesses the part you're singing based on pitch, if you do not match the track you intend to sing, it may match you to another part instead, even if you started off the phrase on your intended part. (You can tell this is happening if a pitch arrow starts jumping back and forth between two parts.)

So, in your case, the first controller connected is assumed to be the vocalist's controller, and that person will need to select songs. You can decide between yourselves who will sing each part for each song - if necessary, you can change parts during the song without having to switch mics.

GTA IV Multiplayer cheats - How to use and avoid?

Question

I play GTA IV on XBox Live and recently, and I have seen several people somehow using cheats in the game. Some cars are extremely fast, there's no way that it's possible in game (sometimes it's a bus and they wreck havoc on other players)

Sometimes they spawn new colourful helicopters, or become god so no matter how many bullets I put in their heads, from 2 inches away, they just stand there looking at me and then walk away.

At other times, they appear to be in a building (or, they ARE that building?) and I can never kill them, yet they can kill me.

How is it done? I have tried to search for this forever and cannot find one single clue to this. Also, how do I avoid getting into those kind of games?

Answer

I believe they use hacked XBox DVD firmware and a pre-hacked copy of GTA IV.

You're paying for online multiplayer on the xBox, unlike the PC, so get them reported to the relevant people in XBox Live and make Microsoft do some work.

What is a good power levelling strategy for Diablo 2?

Question

The Battle.net ladder reset a few days ago, and already some players are up to level 90+. Myself, I've managed to play primarily solo and get to Act 3 in Normal and a comfortable level 20.

I presume these other players are going in groups and helping each other out rather than soloing, but I don't think this explains all of the difference in play. I am also willing to make some serious concessions for the fact that I have many other demands on my time and have only played about 2.5 hours per night.

I tend to find all the waypoints, clear dungeons of creatures and then move on but it seems that the preferred style is to run through as much of the level as possible and just fight the end bosses. I presume that since higher level areas give more experience this accelerates levelling.

Is this method commonly called rushing, and if so what do you do to maintain good equipment and levels so that you can continue this process? Do you just revisit the choice areas in previous acts a couple of times and move on once you're competitive again?

Answer

Equipment is largely irrelevant in terms of rushing - while you're rushing, if you can't handle a monster, just back off and let others kill it. In general, unless you have someone specifically rushing for you (as mentioned in these other answers), you'll only have to worry about waypoints and the staff in Act II. You might need help with the Ancients and bosses, but you can usually find a game for that. So if you can get someone to give you the waypoints you need (and the staff...), all you really need to worry about is where you're receiving the best experience. For the best experience with very little resources, I follow this procedure:

  • Levels 1-15: Normal Tristram runs
  • Levels 16-20: Normal Tomb of Tal Rasha runs
  • Levels 21-24: Normal Cow Level or Chaos Sanctuary runs
  • Level 25: Normal Ancients to gain 1 level, achieving level 25
  • Levels 26-50: Normal Baal runs (somewhere in the 40s people usually transition to Nightmare - you can't do Nightmare Ancients until 40, but you get decent XP from Normal Baal runs until about 50)
  • Levels 51-60: Either get through Nightmare and do Ancients then Baal runs until 60, or get through Nightmare and Hell and do Hell Chaos runs
  • Levels 60+: Hell Ancients, then Hell Baal runs

Alternatively, some people get bug-rushed all the way to Hell and then do Hell Chaos until level 60.

As far as rushing goes, you can often get someone to rush you through a difficulty by offering them the drops from your Forge (Act IV, Quest II - destroying Mephisto's Soulstone).

There used to be a concept called "ubering" (which is the most expensive, but also the easiest). It involves getting a few high-level characters together to kill all the Ubers in Uber Tristram except Mephisto, then get him stuck in a house while minions continue to spawn. If you get a few Hammerdins and their mercs together, you can basically sit AFK while they kill everything (by holding down Shift + Left Click, using a script/bot, etc.). This allowed for 5-6 low level characters to gain significant numbers of levels quickly. The explicit process is available here.

Ubering (also called uber leveling or UT leveling) is no longer available as of 1.13 (it appears Mephisto's minions no longer grant experience). There are rumors of it being reinstated in 1.14, but it is unlikely.

Which version of The Oregon Trail is this?

Question

When my family got our first computer (in 1997) we got a copy of The Oregon Trail and became something of a family meme. Now, I'm trying to find out which version we had. The list below from Wikipedia shows these were (are) the different version, sans mobile and facebook:

  • 1981 to 1985 The Oregon Trail (Apple II)
  • 1992 The Oregon Trail Deluxe (MS-DOS).
  • 1993-96 The Oregon Trail Ver 1.2 (Windows).
  • 1996 The Oregon Trail II (Windows).
  • 1997 The Oregon Trail 3rd Edition (Windows).
  • 2001 The Oregon Trail 4th Edition (Windows).
  • The Oregon Trail 5th Edition (Windows).

This is an image of the start menu as I remember it:

screenshot of the main menu

And this is the theme tune (not sure if it was different depending on version).

Answer

If this article is to be believed, you were playing The Oregon Trail Deluxe (the 1992 MS-DOS) version.

How is it possible to get a score of 2 billion in Cut the Rope?

Question

I just played through the first box (cardboard) in Cut the Rope, aiming for the fastest times and therefore highest score. It seems like the absolute highest score you can get for a level is around 6,000 (I got just over 5,900 for essentially an 'instant solve').

So when I'd finished I amassed 139,800 points (avg ~5,600 per level). Imagine my surprise when I logged onto the game center only to find the top score for Cardboard Box is 2,298,946,210!!!

As far as I can tell, it only takes the highest score for each level, so playing through levels again doesn't keep adding to your score. Are all these users cheating in some way? Or is there another way to improve scores?

Answer

Yes, I'm nearly certain they're cheating. Generally, you'll find the value 2,147,483,647 as a high score, because this is the highest value kids people can input using their cheat programs. (highest value a signed int can store)

Screen goes black when I play Infinity Blade

Question

I was playing Infinity Blade on my iPhone 4 and I selected game center option to look at my achievements and when I push the "Done" button, the screen went black. I exited the app and went back it is still black.

How do I fix this issue and return to the game?

Answer

The reason the app is still black is likely because it is still running. Try exiting to your Springboard (home screen) and double-tapping the home button, bringing up the multitasking bar. Find Infinity Blade, and hold down your finger on the icon. They will start to wobble, like you are rearranging apps. Press the little minus icon on the Infinity Blade icon - this quits the app. Tap anywhere on your home screen to return, and try launching Infinity Blade again.

How to find iOS games supporting new game center?

Question

Now that the Apple Game Center has opened the gates, where/how can I find games that support these new features? Searching the app store shows me many games, but not specifically those wich support the GC.

Answer

There's an icon devoted to it in the Featured tab in the App Store. While that may disappear in the future, you can also find a section under Hot New Games.

Judging by how long Made for iOS 4 has lasted under Hot New Games, this is likely where you'll always want to look for Game Center-enabled games.

Are there any specific tactics or strategies I should use to improve my score at Fruit Ninja?

Question

Obviously, I can just "miss fewer fruit" and "avoid more bombs".

But when I compare my score to the high scores, I suspect there's a specific approach more specifc than "go study with fruit monks in Tibet".

Answer

  1. Make sure you are using sound. The bombs will make a sound before they are launched which helps some.
  2. Don't be afraid to use the pause button. Once you pause/unpause, you can't pause again for a second or two, but it can be useful when all hell breaks loose.
  3. Remember that for every 100 fruit, an X will disappear (i.e. when your score crosses 100,200,300,etc).

Can I practice the flight controls outside of an online multiplayer match?

Question

Is there some way I can get practice with flying the helicopters and jets outside of a multiplayer match?

Answer

There is a co-op level that involves flying a helicopter, but it's not the best chance to practice.

There is no way to practice flying a jet outside of a multiplayer match.

Your best bet is to attempt to find a flight training server. These are servers which have a low max player amount, instant vehicle respawn, and generally people leave you alone to practice flying, and will only dogfight with you after asking if you wish to dogfight.

Does repairing a helicopter inflight gain you points?

Question

In a game this morning on Caspian Border I was an engineer passenger in a helicopter.

I spent 5+ minutes going round in the back constantly using the repair tool to bring the health back up to 100%. At times we were taking lots of fire so I was repairing from 25% on several occasions.

Should I be getting XP points for this?

While I helped keep the helicopter up in the air for a significant period of time it didn't seem to contribute much to my individual score.

Answer

I was doing this too and it didn't give me points. As of now, repairing a vehicle while inside it doesn't trigger the game to give you points. Ideally you should get points but since it could easily be abused due to the helicopter being repaired consonantly when under heavy fire. This is probably for the best to stop players from boosting up their XP while a passenger inside a helicopter.

How can I disable Steam from starting up with Windows without logging in to Steam?

Question

Is there a way to disable Steam from starting up automatically with Windows (XP/Vista/7) after installing it?

I fix systems for people and some of them request or have Steam, so I reinstall it for them. However, I want to prevent it from starting up with windows without having to log-in with an account. I can easily hack the registry, but I'm curious if there is an alternative way to disable it without going that route.

I also don't want to log-in with my own account; call it paranoia or whatever. :)

EDIT: It seems as though there's some confusion in this request judging from the confused answers, so maybe I should elaborate further on this.

I'm already deleting Steam's registry key from HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run, but I want to know if there is a way to get into the Steam client to disable/delete this key such that it won't repopulate that setting if you were to start it again manually. The reason for this is because if you start Steam again, there may be a chance that it will auto-start again (but I haven't confirmed this, so if anybody's done so already, feel free to let me know). UPDATE: Confirmed! Steam does not recreate the registry key. See my last comment under the answer I selected.

What I'm trying to accomplish is sort of like a pseudo-sysprep where the user will get a freshly re-imaged machine with everything set at default values but optimized to boot faster without annoying programs starting up on you. Since Steam starts up for the first time with a first-run wizard prompt, the only way to get in and change the setting (that I can see) is to login with an existing account (or a create a new one but that seems moot if the user already has an account). I'd like for that wizard to stay where it is instead of it popping up with my own account being the last account logged on when they first launch Steam (it's just unprofessional), and I also want to keep Steam from auto-starting on my customers with Windows yet again.

Maybe I'm asking this in the wrong area, but I'm sure there must be some other IT pros like me who run into these problems (with Steam or other programs). If there's no way to do it, then I'll just keep on trucking with the registry edits.

Sorry for the level 99 difficulty of this question; I googled for answers well before asking this question and I realized that this is a very specific request, so I thought I'd ask the internet for help with it.

Thanks again, everybody!

Answer

Modifying the registry is the best option, in my opinion. The autostart checkbox is directly tied to a registry key — simply deleting it is all the Steam client does when said checkbox is unchecked.

Navigate to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and delete the Steam key. Or as a .reg file:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"Steam"=-

Is there an NPC who can repair to 100% in Fallout 3?

Question

Is there an NPC someplace in Fallout 3, or the expansions, who can repair the unique items (Chinese stealth armor, etc) to 100%?

Answer

According to the Fallout 3 Wiki -- Somah (An NPC from the Mothership Zeta DLC) has a repair skill of 100.

You may also look into Haley (An NPC from the Point Lookout DLC) who has a glitch that will eventually bring his repair skill up to 100.

If you are just looking to repair your unique items up to 100%, look into Alien Epoxy, a semi-repeatably obtainable consumable that instantly restores between 15% and 30% condition to an item. (Also from the Mothership Zeta DLC)

Looking for RTS with 3 or 4 races, one red, one green

Question

I'm looking for the name of this game.

  • I remember you could choose between some races, I think it was four but could have been three.

  • The first race was kind a like a red race with little fat creatures that had diciples and where riding animals looking a little like themselves.

  • Another race was green, and I remember they had like a mother unit instead of a builder that was wearing a giant scythe and as far as I remember had several eyes.

  • You could build with workers or other units and you could upgrade units by cliking on them and choosing the upgrade.

Answer

Could the game you're looking for be War Wind? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_Wind

How do I access the new Halloween map/content?

Question

I haven't beat all the maps in regular, nor any challenges, but I'd like to see and play the new one if I can.

  • where do I find the special map so I can unlock outfits?
  • do I have to beat the regular maps first?
  • Is the map available in both ranked and open?

Answer

To get the new content, click on the big Download Content button on the main page. There are 2 items for the Halloween special event. The first is the Costume Pack, which gives you these costumes:

  • Devil – Monk
  • Mummy – Apprentice
  • Pirate – Squire
  • Witch – Huntress

These are already unlocked and you can edit your character from the character selection screen to pick them immediately.

The second DLC is the Mission Pack, which unlocks the Halloween Spooktacular challenge (in the challenges list). If you complete this challenge on insane, you can unlock the following costumes (depending on the class you beat it with):

  • Ninja – Monk
  • Vampire - Apprentice
  • Death Knight - Squire
  • Angel - Huntress

I do not think you have to beat the regular missions first, but I am unsure of this as I've alreayd do so. And this is only available on the ranked servers.

Do tank bullets inflict damage on other tanks and jets in Battlefield 3?

Question

When I'm in a tank and manning the gun on top, I'm often confused as to what I should be doing when an enemy jet or tank starts getting to close to my position. I often open fire on them and try to inflict as much damage as possible. However, as far as I can tell, they're not doing anything at all. Am I mistaken, and can I actually hurt jets and tanks using tank bullets(not shells)? Or should I be focusing on checking for nearby engies or other soldiers?

Answer

The bullets from a tank's secondary position will inflict damage on all vehicles and players.

Damage to aerial vehicles is mid-minor, it's definitely worth shooting them to at least annoy them.

Damage to enemy armour is very minor, and you're better off looking for enemy engineers repairing the tank, but if you can't see any, shooting the tank helps just a little.

What are the base stats for each tower per upgrade level?

Question

Although I primarily play an apprentice, I will be experimenting with the other classes. Therefore, I am interested in knowing the health, attack speed, damage, and range for every tower and for all upgrade levels of the towers. For towers that do not deal damage, knowing their health levels and the degree to which their other effects scale per tower level would be sufficient.

Edit: I am interested in the base stats, not stats for all possible builds. If you want to tack on how the stats affect each tower, however (such as: +.5 damage per point in tower damage), that would be a nice touch!

Answer

Okay, I spent over an hour trying to convert these tables into something readable for the format here, but frankly, I think it's best if you check out the information on the Dungeon Defenders Wikia Wiki itself, specifically the Tower articles. The conversion I attempted to do to fit the format here was ugly and less handy to look at and scroll through. In addition, when these values change due to patches, I likely would've been referencing the wiki anyway for the value changes, so it seems best to point you to the primary source.

For instance, if you go to the Gas Trap article, you can find all the statistics you are looking for in the table, like Number of Activations, Defense Units, Effective Range, Effective Duration, Activation Range, Detonation Reset Time, and Mana to Upgrade. There are links at the bottom of that article for every single class tower with all the information you are looking for!

How does one hide the bottom UI bar?

Question

An example of what I'm talking about was seen during the large Roach-Hydra battle in the game between DIMAGA and JulyZerg as part of the GSL World Championship Team League.

Under what circumstances can you use this?

Answer

Try pressing Ctrl+W while observing a match. No clue if this will work when playing as it is mostly an observing/replay feature (and I can't test it right now).

Why select and start?

Question

From the NES up until the seventh generation of video games, video game controllers have featured a "Start" button and some these platforms had a "select" button. The select button hardly seems to be used these days, and the start button always pauses the game. Why are these buttons labeled "Start" and "Select"?

Answer

"Start" would be used to start the game from the Title Screen. "Select" would be used to select from the options presented in the start menu (such as 1 or 2 players). Some early games actually didn't use the directional pad at the start menu, so the only thing that worked was the Select button.

Start also became a de-facto pause button because interrupting the game is separate from the normal activity of the game. This matches its utility in starting the game as "administrative" in nature. This is also probably why they're kept separate from the "face" buttons (A + B).

Since most option prompts in later games use D-Pads or joysticks to go through a lot more options, the usage of Select has indeed fallen out of usage. On the consoles where it does still exist, it's mostly used as a secondary administrative button, doing things that aren't on the level of face buttons in importance, but also not as high as Start.

How do I get out of large room with a pipe around the top (after the waterfall)?

Question

After finishing the waterfall area, you cross a bridge with a fence on either side, and enter a large open room with a ladder to the top. At the top of the ladder there is a pipe that goes most of the way around the room, but it stops short of the window that I assume I'm supposed to go through. I can't for the life of me figure out how to get to that window! I think I must be missing something dumb?

From the Walkthrough:

Go through to a small bridge. Cross it to a large shed with no way out save the way you entered.
Find the ladder going up. Climb it, leaving Yorda where she is. Shimmy across the pipeline to the outer window, then climb to the ground using the ladder. Push the block into the water, letting it flow down with the waterfall, then jump across the stone aqueduct and go to the ladder at left.
Climb it to a switch; push it until the water stops flowing, dammed by a wooden block.

Answer

I've been in the same trouble and in the version I played (PS2 & PS3), what you see in the video posted by Keaanu did not happen. In my version, there is a switch in the second plataform that start a machine below the second window. What you need to do in this case is to climb the piston of the machine and jump as high as possible. Take practice and several times but it can be done.

Let me tell you something: you are really close to the best kept secret of the castle! While you are on the other side of that window, try to hit the trees with the sword. What can be done with that? Is up to you to figure out! And let me tell you is really difficult (at least for me) to figure out without a walkthrough but you can use it in the very same room you are now.

What does GLaDOS mean with “One day they woke me up”?

Question

A few days back I completed Portal and Portal 2. I had a lot of questions about this awesome game, like who Caroline is, why there's no personnel and other things that I didn't understand.

I am interested in the start of story. There was a line in the ending song Want You Gone:

One day they woke me up

What does this mean? Who woke her up or does this line have another meaning?

Answer

They mean the day she was initialized. During the game Cave Johnson mentions that he wants his team to take the personality of Caroline and put her in a computer.

Since GLaDOS exists, we must assume that his team succeeded in doing this. So they started building her and putting Caroline's personality into GLaDOS. Then, one day they woke her up so she could live forever and feel bad for Chell because it'll never happen to her.

What is the significance of these obelisks?

Question

Every map I've played so far seems to have a feature in common: pairs of obelisks that serve as a chokepoint between areas.

enter image description here

The colors vary, but they're always there. Is this just a favorite feature of the map generator, or do they have some additional significance?

Answer

The obelisks that appear on the coasts indicate where you can land a ship.

The obelisks on land appear where one towns territory ends and the next towns territory begins. The color of the obelisk corresponds to the color of the player that currently controls the town (with gray representing a neutral town).

What game combined RPG and RTS between 2002 and 2006?

Question

Between 2002 and 2006 I played a PC game that combined features of both genres, RTS and RPG.
I can remember that you controlled a character, or a group of up to 3-5(?) character which could be equipped with items. Sometimes they walked through a city and talked to NPCs, merchants and quest givers. Those characters leveled up during some small battles and could equip something like runes.

Those runes determined the units you were able to use in the RTS part of the game, which took place on a whole different map in a traditional rts-style: You started with some buildings and workers and had to take one or more enemies down with the army you built up. When this map was won, you came back to the RPG part.

I think there were 3-4 races playable in the rts-part, something like Humans, Elves (with walking trees as ultimate units, something dwarf-like.

Answer

This sounds like one of the Spellforce games. There is Spellforce: The Order of Dawn and Spellforce 2: Shadow Wars. The runes part makes me think it was the first one, as you played a Runewarrior in that one. From the Wikipedia entry on the first game:

The Circle Mages needed vast armies that would be loyal and could be gathered quickly,This is when they had the idea of the runewarriors. The runewarriors were fighters and mages whose souls were trapped in stones their masters could summon them forth to do their will any deaths would be meaningless as they could be brought back even after death because they had the gift of immortality. With these stones the mages could form armies quickly and easily sending them forth in unhaltable tides they would serve their masters for eternity had it not been for the convocation.

Can I get information about the covenant in-game in Dark Souls?

Question

I've talked to the miracle teacher near the Firelink Bonfire, and I've joined the White Covenant. I've read here that the covenant put some restriction on what you are allowed to do, however, I've not been able to find this information in-game.

Is it possible to figure in-game what are the restriction imposed by the different covenant? Otherwise, what are the different covenant, and what restriction do they put on the player?

Answer

There's no way of finding out all of the information for the covenants in-game. Some things are hinted, others you will find through trial and error. For in-depth information regarding covenants I advice you to check one of the several Dark Souls wikis, such as these: Dark Souls Wikidot, Dark Souls Wikispaces or Dark Souls IGN Wiki Guide.

As a general rule, joining a Covenant and following it's rules provides you with one or several rewards. Sometimes, there's also a penalty for betraying a Covenant (killing a NPC aligned with such Covenant or joining a different one).

There are nine covenants in the game.

Here's some info I gathered from my first play-through and some info digging. (This list is not complete):

Are there places only reachable by jumping in Dark Souls?

Question

Near the Firelink Bonfire, on the path to Undead Burg, there is a bridge and we can see an item near a corpse under that bridge. I've been able to reach this place by jumping above a little hole behind the Undead Soldier.

I'm wondering if there are other places in Dark Souls that are only reachable by jumping. Since I find this move quite difficult to accurately time, I want to know if I need to train to do it or not.

Answer

Yes there are places that you can only get to by jumping. On the bright side however, they're not essential for progressing. Rather, they usually lead to some basic item or pick up. Off the top of my head, I've only discovered a light crossbow, bolts and one humanity in locations like this. Additionally, in most of these situations you can get past by rolling instead of jumping. From what I can remember, the bridge you're referring to is the most difficult jump I had to make.

The only other situation this is important, is done in order to return to the Undead Asylum (optional). You'll need to jump across to a ledge, but it can be done by simply rolling forward. Here is a video in case you're interested:

Lost my 3 star rating in Angry Birds Rio 8-5; is this a bug?

Question

After downloading the latest update (1.3.3) of Angry Birds Rio from the app store today, I noticed I was suddenly two stars short in the Carnival Upheaval stage. This, of course, would not do so I set out to improve my score on the level 8-5 to get back my treasured 100% completion rate.

After a few hours I gave up. I managed to improve my score a couple thousand points up to 73020, but it still wasn't enough to even get me a measly second star. Weirder yet, this video walkthrough for the level nets three stars at a score of 71480.

I've completed all the levels without the Mighty Eagle and hope it hasn't become impossible to three-star the level without it.

Is this a bug or has the limit been changed in the latest update? Have you encountered this same problem and discovered the new three star limit?

Answer

From Angry Birds' Nest:

It seems the 3-star minimum for Carnival Upheaval 8-5 has been raised. It was previously 65,000, but now I have 1 star at 78,000. Rovio did respond to our inquiry saying, “Yeah. That Carnival level limit is not correct. Will be fixed. Sorry about that”. If anyone can find the new limit we are curious (note, it may be impossible).

Is there enough XP in Payday: The Heist to unlock every upgrade?

Question

I've been playing Payday: The Heist, which has three upgrade trees (assault, sharpshooter, support).

Each time you gain a level, you proceed one step further up one of the trees. You can only ever be on one tree at any one time, though you can change which tree you're on instantly at any moment.

Right now I've been upgrading each tree equally. However, I'm starting to wonder: is there enough XP in the game to allow me to fully upgrade every tree, or should I pick the one I like most and upgrade only that tree?

Answer

Yes, there are currently 144 "levels" each level giving you the next upgrade in your currently selected leveling tree.

I'm pretty sure you can select which tree you're leveling by hitting tab + 1, 2, or 3, depending on which tree you want to level.

Can you spot people in BF3 when you are in a vehicle?

Question

Say you are flying a heli, can you use the same spot key/button to spot people on the ground? Do you have to have them in your sights?

Answer

Yes, you can. The same principle applies as when you are on foot, in that you need to be looking in their direction and not have them in your peripheral vision. The same applies to all vehicles.

How do you feed a wolf?

Question

If I equip the porkchop and right click on the wolf, I eat it. If I left click, I beat him with it. If I drop it on the ground, he doesn't care.

How am I supposed to feed him?

edit: I did try both on SMP and on single player. Looks like I thought it wasn't working because apparently I arbitrarily decided that the raw ones healed the wolves more than the cooked ones, while they healed them so few that they didn't raise the tail.

I'll try again in SMP too as soon as I have the occasion, and let you know if it works there too.

Answer

I also have this problem and could only come up by accident with this partial solution. I hope it's not the actual way of doing it.

The problem is you need to have more than one porkchop in your inventory slot; then, when you right click on the dog, two porkchops will be consumed: the first by you, the second by the dog. You'll be able to see this is working because:

  • You consume two porkchops per right click.
  • The dog's tail raises.
  • The dog does not toggle between sitting and standing stance (like it usually would do when "just" right clicking).

Basically:

  1. Right click on dog to order him to sit.
  2. Select porkchops.
  3. Right click on dog until he stands up.

Now you have traded (a lot of) bacon for a fully healthy dog.

Is it possible to run RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 in windowed mode?

Question

Is it possible to run RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 in windowed mode?

I have Windows 7 and the game works, but since my resolution is bigger than the game can handle, I would prefer to play in windowed mode instead of having the game scale.

So is it possible? And how can I activate it?

Thanks

Answer

No, it's not possible at all to run RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 in windowed mode. The only thing I could think of, while drastic, is running the game in a virtual machine like VirtualBox or just Windows 7's XP mode and thereby 'faking' windowed mode. I'm not sure what that'll do to performance though.

How Does the Darkness Trap Work?

Question

The tooltip on the Darkness trap seems very vague to me. The description I found on the DD Wiki is:

Darkness Trap - When activated, enemies become consumed by darkness, rendering them unable to attack, and making them lose their current target.

I believe that is the actual text from the game, as well. I'm just confused by what this actually means in gameplay.

For instance, what happens if enemies are in the Darkness trap, but the Huntress is also there? Will they ignore her and just run straight past her?

What happens if the radius of the Darkness Trap overlaps with a crystal? Will enemies attacking the crystal stop and just sit around doing nothing?

How about if Squire or Apprentice wall is blocking the enemies from making forward progress. Will they just stand and wait until Darkness ends, then resume attacking? Will they try to find another path (or something else to destroy)?

Finally, does the Darkness trap affect ENEMIES, or does it affect the allied structures/units inside the Darkness trap? For example, if I manually set off a Darkness trap I am standing in, will enemies outside the trap still see me and approach or attack me? If they enter the trap, will they 'lose me' and stop attacking? Or, if I am in the trap, will they simply not see me in the first place?

These are all specifics about the Darkness trap that I do not entirely understand; I am more reluctant to spend 5 DU on the trap if I don't fully understand how it works.

Answer

Here is my observations from playing with darkness trap for a few rounds:

  • All enemies within the darkness trap cannot attack with the following exceptions:

    • Ogres can still attack through it
    • bosses ignore it as well
    • Assassins can jump out of it and attack you
    • It WILL prevent kobolds from detonating for a short while even after they have lit their fuse. But if you attack them they'll still explode.
  • If it happens that you upgrade a trap so it eventually covers the edge of a crystal, enemies will not attack the crystal either because of #1.

  • Enemies will just bunch up near the traps and die >:). The enemies don't seem to try to move and find another path, they'll just cluster there and take constant damage until they die. Ranged units outside of the path will still attack.

And lastly, it affects any enemies within the cloud. If you are standing within it, things outside can still shoot at you and see you.

What was the name of this Hot Wheels game?

Question

Good afternoon folks. I have an urge to play one of my childhood favorites, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called. I'll describe it as best I can.

  • It was from the HotWheels franchise.

  • It was for PC.

  • You raced cars from a 3rd-person perspective, and did "tricks" by making the car backflip, or rotate while racing on one of the many tracks.

  • I remember two levels. One being based in a bedroom, and the other in an overgrown green house of sorts.

Answer

Was it Stunt Track Driver?

Here's a video of the Greenhouse level:

Is it worth using the Fire Keeper Soul to upgrade the Estus Flask?

Question

I found a Fire Keeper Soul in Undead Parish. Later, I went back to Firelink Bonfire, and a NPC offered me to upgrade my Estus Flask in exchange of the Fire Keeper Soul. I didn't pay attention, and accepted.

Now, I can see a +1 sign near my Estus Flask and it seems to give back somewhat more health. So do the Fire Keeper Soul item have other uses? Are they better or worse than upgrading the Estus Flask? How many time can I upgrade the flask, and how much do each upgrade change the HP regeneration?

Answer

You can consume a Fire Keeper soul, and doing so grants you five addition units of humanity. I highly recommend you use them to upgrade your Estus Flasks however, as they are rare, and this is the only way to upgrade your flasks. If you don't upgrade them, the flasks will be of much less use later in the game since you'll (usually) have a lot more health to replenish. Here is more information on the Fire Keeper soul.

Is there a limit to the number of item in inventory?

Question

I'm wondering if there is a limit to the weight one's character can have in it's inventory. In the character status page I can see that there is a limit to the weight of the equipment, but I don't find one for the inventory. Can I carry each and every item I find?

If there is a limit, what is it? Where can I find it? Does it depends on character's stats (strength)? Is there a NPC that can store the items I want to keep, but can't carry?

Answer

The only limit on your inventory is that you can only hold 99 copies of each stackable item.

Is Knight Lautrec of Carim an evil NPC?

Question

I've just found an NPC locked in a cell, and rescued him. He told me he is Knight Lautrec of Carim and he will give me a reward later. However, if I press him, he tell me:

I'm free. Now I can get back to work...
Keh heh heh heh...

I'm worried after hearing this line. He reminds me of Yurt, the Silent Chief in Demon's Soul that went killing other NPCs after you freed him.

Did I made a mistake when I freed him? Will he kill other NPCs? Should I kill him right now, while he is still sitting in his cell?

Answer

Yes, he eventually kills the Fire Keeper located near the Firelink Shrine. If this does end up happening, you can eventually bring her back to life (when you reach Anor Londo) by invading Lautrec's realm and retrieving her soul. It is inconvenient however, as you cannot interact with the Firelink Bonfire until you bring the Fire Keeper back to life.

Are there multiple endings to Dark Souls?

Question

Are there multiple endings to Dark Souls? If yes, how many, and how is it determined which ending will be played? Please try to not tell what the ending are, I'm still at the beginning of the game, and I don't want to be spoiled too much.

Answer

There are two, and they are determined by a choice you have to make following the final boss fight.

What do the symbols (icons) in the Borderlands multiplayer game info mean?

Question

When looking for an online game to join on Borderlands (I have the PS3 version), sometimes there are little icons or symbols in the information for a particular game, under the words "Plot Mission :" and the name of the mission. For example, one looks like a little box with a parachute. (I can't make out what the rest are.) What do these symbols indicate?

Answer

I am going to assume you mean these:

alt text

That is the DLC indicator. The symbols are General Knoxx, Moxxi's Underdome, and Island of Dr. Ned, from left to right. If there is a checkmark by it like so, it means that the host has the DLC.

If you see a black X in a red circle next to the image, like this,

alt text

then the host does not have that particular piece of DLC. You can see in this particular example that the host has none of the DLC at all.

Do items in Binding of Isaac affect stats that are at max?

Question

In the Binding of Isaac, if a stat has all of its bars filled when I look at the pause screen, does an item that raises that stat for a single room cause an effective increase of that stat past the maximum or does it just round to the maximum? In particular, if my damage stat is at maximum, does the Book of Belial cause me to deal more damage per hit?

I would guess that this could be tested by counting the number of shots to kill a particular boss with and without using the item but I am usually too busy not dying.

Answer

According to the wiki, the only item that seems to be able to raise your stats above the maximum is The Sad Onion, which doubles the firing rate no matter its current value. I have very little personal experience with that item, so I can't confirm or deny this.

The stat that I find easiest to max out is damage, as I've often managed to get quite a few damage enhancing items in a single run (which would have put me over the maximum looking at the bars in the pause screen). I always seemed to hit the same cap, no matter how many damage enhancers I picked up.

In light of the above, my previous version of this answer indeed states that the item is useless once damage has been maxed. Further research, however, proves that I was mistaken. To test this, I played with Judas, picking up both The Pact and Pentagram, which maxed out my damage. I then engaged the boss Gish. Here is Gish's health-bar before I started measuring damage:

Pre-measure

I then shot Gish three times, bringing him down to this:

Max damage?

The difference was 11 pixels. Then, I used the Book of Beliel and shot him three more times:

Max damage!

This time, the difference was 15 pixels.

So as a matter of fact, the Book of Beliel can and will take you above max damage.

Sadly, this experiment doesn't give a single conclusion about the multitude of other ways that one may try to raise his stats past the maximum, but strictly speaking, the answer to your question is yes.

Fixing scrambled graphics on SNES console

Question

Whenever I try playing a game on my old SNES console, the graphics come out either scrambled or completely black, but the audio plays correctly, and the controls seem to work just fine. I initially thought the problem was a dirty connector on the game cartridge, but even though cleaning it did remove some dirt, it didn't improve the graphics at all. I have the same problem with each of my game cartridges, although some cartridges come out with worse graphics than the others. I double-checked the connection to the TV, and tried both the RCA connectors and the RF switch, but I have the same problem with each. It seems as though the problem is with the console itself.

My SNES was in perfect working order as little as two years ago. What else can I try to do to fix the problem and return my SNES to a usable state?

Answer

Most likely one of your RAM chips has gone bad. Considering you can buy a replacement console on eBay for as little as $18, you may want to evaluate purchasing a used console vs. what your time is worth fixing the old one.

What are the benefits to purchasing the Cerberus Network for Mass Effect 2

Question

I purchased ME2 used via Craigslist and do not have Cerberus Network access. What are the benefits to having access? I'm trying to decide whether or not to purchase access.

Answer

It gives you access to some free (well, not REALLY free since you have to pay for it ;)) DLC's and possibility to buy others.

Here is a list of DLC's in ME2, the ones marked as "free" are available to any CN member.

http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Downloadable_Content

In my opinion - it's definitely worth it (especially for Zaeed, an additional squad member + nice side quest), and other DLC (the paid ones) are also very good, but play 2-3 hours and then decide.

Whats the best methods of hiding a nuke attack from the opponent?

Question

I'm a Silver League Terran player I normally don't use nuke gameplay in SC2 since the army normally moves out the nuke's blast area. I would like to start incorporating it into my play style as a harass tactic, and to block paths of the opponents army.

So whats the most effective method of hiding the red nuke dot on the map so the opponent does not know where the nuke is going to land?

Answer

As you have already discovered, using a nuke against enemy units is very difficult since a player is very likely to notice it. The trick is to only use it to harass enemy units when your opponent is otherwise distracted. When you do use it, it is best to use it against an area on the map he is not currently focused on. If your enemy is attacking you, launch a nuke on one of his bases (a successful nuke will deal massive damage to any of the bases, and destroy any workers as well).

However, I believe you may be narrowing your focus too much. The nuke is useful against more than just units, it is devastating to buildings as well. The following buildings will be destroyed from one nuke (source):

Pylon, Supply Depot, Extractor, Refinery, Tech Lab, Reactor, Photon Cannon, Bunker, Missile Turret, Sensor Tower, Spine Crawler, Spore Crawler, Creep Tumor

Of these, I would say the supply depot is the most tempting targets. Terran players will often clump up their supply depots together. One well placed nuke can put a huge dent in the enemies supply cap.

Finally, the defensive nuke. The defensive nuke will almost always be seen by the enemy, but that's fine. One of the most useful features of the defensive nuke is that it can hold off an opposing army, either giving your units time to retreat or finish building some units. Managing to kill enemy units with it would be ideal, but considering you need to place it in the opposing armies path for it to work, it's very unlikely your opponent won't notice it when moving his army.

Why aren't my pets getting paid?

Question

I have The Sims 2 installed with all expansions and official patches (I miss stuff packs however).

I have a problem concerning pets: basically when they come back from work (after a few game days where everything works fine) they don't get a salary. They also can't get a promotion: it seems that the pets coming back home fails to trigger some routine.

I also tried totally erasing the Sims2 directory in my Documents and Settings folder (thus forcing the program to recreate the neighbors from scratch) but I still have the same problem.

However, this doesn't seem to be a common problem around the Internet. Is this bug known? Do you know how to solve it?

Answer

Found a couple other people and have the same problem myself. Seems to go away if Apartment Life is removed. No other fix found yet.

Farming in League of Legends

Question

What is the maximum number of minions one can kill at the 5, 10 and 15 minute mark?

What are some good goals on number of minions killed to aim for based on level of harass?

Answer

Minions spawn every 30 seconds after the 90 second mark and alternating waves have a bonus siege minion. Including the 4:30 wave (assuming the minions got to mid-lane by 5 minutes), 45 minions will have spawned per lane. At 9:30 it will be 110, then 14:30 puts it to 175 (65 more per 5 minutes).

I'm not sure what constitutes "good" or bad, but minion kills are only a small part of being good in lane. I'd rather worry more about the enemy champions, trying to zone them out so they can't get kills or more importantly, experience.

Can Rocksmith be played with Rock Band's Squier Stratocaster?

Question

Earlier this year I got the Squier Stratocaster for Rock Band 3, which can also be used as a regular electric guitar.

enter image description here

In Rocksmith rather than using plastic guitars, you're supposed to connect an actual electric guitar to play. So know I want to know whether I can play Rocksmith with Rock Band's Squier Stratocaster?

Answer

Rocksmith should work with any guitar that has a 1/4-inch jack and a pickup.

I just tested this with my Rock Band 3 Squier and it's working fine. You will need to just use the cable that comes with Rocksmith since the game does not require a special adapter like Rock Band does.

In Rune Factory ToD, is there any point to the Cherry Blossom Festival?

Question

Is there any point to the Cherry Blossom Festival? I feel like I'm only walking around and talking to people, is there something else that I should be doing?

Answer

According to an IGN walkthrough,

You basically have six hours to complete the Cherry Blossom Festival Mini-Game if you speak to James immediately at noon. He will direct you to Odette, who will be found in her Kitchen. You can teleport back to your home to save time.

Odette will tell you that she cannot complete the Festival feast because she is missing three Ingredients. She then will list the Ingredients and ask that you obtain them from specific Villagers. The Ingredients are loaded randomly but the Villagers appear to be the same, at least in the first Year. The Villagers who hold the Ingredients are: Electra, Bismark and James. Each Item is specific to a Character and when you speak to the Character in question, he/she will pretend to have forgotten what is required. You must choose the correct Item from a list of three in each case.

James is easy to find. He will be at his Stall at the Plaza Pavilion throughout the afternoon. Electra should be near the Mansion. It is Bismark who presented a problem for me. Although the Map showed him to be near the Gemini General Store, I could not find him until 4.30 p.m., when he appeared outside the Shop. In any case, that was soon enough to complete the task.

When you return to Odette, you physically must give her all three Items in order to complete the Mini-Game. She then will make you a Cooked Dish using those Ingredients and give it to her. You can eat it, stash it or sell it. That is the extent of the Cherry Blossom Festival in the first Spring.

Fifa 12 PS3 controller configuration handout?

Question

I am new to gaming and just got Fifa 12. But the "manual" is nonexistent.

Is there a pdf I can print that contains all default controller configurations for all the possible things a player can do? Like dribbling, special kicks and other stuff?

Answer

In this thread john_wisdom shares a fan-made manual that seems to fit your needs. The current PS3 version can be found here.

Where can I find maps for Baldur's Gate?

Question

Years and years ago I put about 200 hours into Baldur's Gate and was getting near the end. Then that computer died and my new one was not able to run it due to problems with XP. I'm considering going back to the game now that patches are easily available, but the maps site I was using to find all the cool hidden areas has gone down. It was http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/m.james/ and it had great lablled maps, but it is long offline, and Wayback didn't archive the maps. I've looked around, but never run into anything as nice since: Does anyone have suggestions for maps that show the location of secrete/hard to find areas?

Answer

I think this is the best map for the job.

What's the difference between Prime Magic and Arcane Exaltation?

Question

I'm looking at both of these prime spells, and they seem to do almost the same thing. The first claims to award 3 magic power to the hero, while the second claims to award 2 magic power permanently.

What does it mean by that? Is Prime Magic not permanent, thus having to be cast (or something)?

Answer

IIRC,

Prime Magic only awards the bonus to spells in the Prime spell tree (e.g. Implosion)

Arcane Exaltation works for all trees. So if you're a primary Dark Magic user, you can pick up Arcane Exaltation to increase the bonus for your Dark Magic spells.

Surviving multiple enemies at a time

Question

While playing Dark Souls, I'm perfectly able to handle single (standard) enemies one at a time. But, when 2 or more are attacking me at once, I am frequently overcome by them and die.

What are some tips for surviving attacks from multiple enemies at once?

Answer

Firstly, DON'T PANIC! Don't swing wildly trying to finish them off quickly; your stamina will drain and you will take damage.

The best approach is usually to retreat and use a divide and conquer approach to thin-out the enemies' numbers, by drawing them out one at a time with a ranged attack. If you're trapped and unable to retreat though, you can use the following tactics:

  • Don't let the enemies surround you. Lock on to one of the enemies and move around to position the whole group in front of you. Keep them in front of your shield.

  • Keep your shield up, but be aware of your stamina level. Lower your shield and back away to allow your stamina to recharge.

  • Try and block hits from multiple enemies before you attack. Time your attack to occur after you've blocked their hits. If your weapon is capable of hitting multiple enemies in a single swipe, take advantage of this.

  • Concentrate on killing one at a time. Try and hit the same enemy with every attack. This will reduce their numbers more quickly.

  • Use the roll move to evade multiple attacks when low on stamina. (This also uses stamina, so be sure to allow your stamina to recharge afterwards!)

  • If you're also being shot at by a bow wielder, stay moving to evade the arrows/bolts.

If you have trouble attacking without getting hit, try a spear or rapier-type weapon. These weapons allow you to strike while keeping your shield up. (Estoc is available early in the game, in New Londo Ruins before the bridge across the water.) Be extra careful about your stamina level since your stamina recovers very slowly when you shield is raised.

Good luck!

What is the best answer to early mutas in a TvZ game?

Question

I am a Terran silver league player in the top 25. In my current TvZ games I get attacked by mutas very quickly, normally in the first 7 minutes. I normally try and go mass marine while tech switching to thors, but as thors are late game tech I never have enough to hold off an attack. What would be the best early game unit to combat mutas?

Answer

Since you mention the 7 minute mark, even without scouting, you should be able to find a way to put down an engineering bay about 5 minutes in and that will give you plenty of time to get up a few turrets up around the 7 minute mark.

Turrets are very good versus a low number of mutas (which they will have around the 7 minute mark, 5-7 max).

With the early engineering bay you can easily drop 100 minerals and gas for a quick +1 attack upgrade which will help versus zerg.

Of course you should always scout and not spend needless minerals on the turrets if they are not going mutas. The engineering bay is still helpful for the upgrades.
